ODP and PA ASERT recently published a document containing suggestions for professionals supporting deaf-blind individuals through the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the Universal Face Covering Order issued by Department of Health Secretary Levine on July 1, this document is designed to assist support professionals in working with deaf-blind individuals where mask-wearing may impede communication. As the document notes, there is no one-size-fits-all plan to support someone who is deaf-blind. When implementing the suggestions in the document, remember to keep practicing all prior COVID-19 mitigation guidance issued by ODP, the Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
