Supported Decision-Making 101
Lehigh Valley Center of Independent Living (LVCIL) and Jewish Family Service (JFSLV) will be hosting a free virtual presentation titled, “Supported Decision-Making 101: Alternatives to Guardianship and Advocacy for SDM” on Thursday, September 30th at 3 pm EST.
Supported Decision-Making (SDM) is a fast-growing national initiative for empowering adults with disabilities to make decisions about their lives. Traditional systems of substitute decision-making can have the unintended consequence of stymying the right of individuals to make their own decisions. This can have long-term implications such as hindering self-determination, community integration, and quality of life.
Join Disability Rights Pennsylvania guardianship attorney, Elysia Duerr, Esq, and Supported Decision-Making trainer, Amanda Thomas, Ph.D. for an introductory discussion on alternatives to guardianship. Specifically, the discussion will include:
- What is Supported Decision Making?
- Why is Supported Decision Making the preferred alternative to guardianship?
- What resources exist to help empower individuals with disabilities to use Supported Decision Making.
Interested? Register here. Registrants are also encouraged to submit questions ahead of the training at the same registration link.
ASL interpretation and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) will be provided. If you need any other accommodation, please let us know by sending an email to email@example.com by September 16, 2021.
