This section contains supplemental Technical Assistance webinars conducted by the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) Bureau of Supports for Autism and Special Populations (BSASP) for AAW.


These trainings are not required but do contain important guidance about expectations and service delivery that providers are responsible for understanding.

People who are included in home, community, work, and social environments have a greater opportunity to have an increased quality of life and a better sense of self-worth. However, many people we support may not have meaningful opportunities to be included in these settings. We, as supporters, need to do better to encourage community and social inclusion. This training will explore this concept further while addressing best practices and strategies to include individuals in meaningful environments and settings.

Description: We all achieve meaning in our lives/days through our work, community involvement, relationships, leisure/recreational interests, spiritual activities, etc.  From a philosophical perspective this training will explore how we can assist the participants we support to participant in their homes and communities in ways that matter by assisting them to explore interests, develop competencies, establish community presence, etc.

By supporting individuals to be present, engaged, involved, and known by others in everyday settings, relationships are developed, and quality of life is enhanced.  This first session in a two-part training will focus on the philosophy and practice of supporting individuals with ASD and other disabilities to have meaningful community participation.
